Vuadis, also known as the Studious Vuadis, is a minor character in Horizon Forbidden West.
History[]
Vuadis was assigned to preside over the Embassy at Barren Light, in which the Sun-King's cousin Fashav would be returned to the Sundom after five years with the Tenakth. For his journey to the Sundom's western edge, Vuadis was given an escort of three Vanguard, including its captain, Erend.
However, the journey to Barren Light did not go smoothly. The day Vuadis arrived in the Daunt, a herd of Bristlebacks appeared in the valley without warning. After having to spend the night in his tent, he sent out two from his escort at daybreak, to clear the valley and make the journey safe. Accompanied by his remaining bodyguard, Joruf, Vuadis attempted to make his way back to the lift out of the Daunt, where he began complaining about spending the night in a cold tent, vulnerable to attack.
To his further indignation, he found Karhn had transported a Nora girl and derisively dismissed her, even refusing to take back his rudeness when Joruf identified her as Aloy, the Savior of Meridian. When Aloy explained she had come for the Embassy, Vuadis refused to proceed with the valley infested and recited from scripture why a Sun-Priest such as himself deserved protection above all else, and that he would only proceed to Barren Light once Erend gave the all-clear. His subsequent attempt to use the lift was barred by Aloy, who sent Karhn back up, ordered Joruf to escort with the Sun-Priest to Chainscrape, and promised to aid Erend in clearing out the Bristlebacks, after which they would proceed with the Embassy.
Vuadis met Aloy again in Chainscrape, who confirmed that the Bristlebacks were dealt with and that Erend had given orders to meet at Barren Light. Though the Sun-Priest nervously insisted on being escorted by his full retinue, he was forced to follow Joruf as the Vanguard heeded Aloy's order.
At Barren Light, the Carja awaited the Tenakth to sound off to begin the Embassy, but unfortunately the Sky Clan had yet to set their banner. Vuadis stood with Commander Nozar, sharing their disdain for the Tenakth, before being joined by Aloy, who grew impatient to venture into the Forbidden West; she even rudely silenced Vuadis when he attempted to read from his scroll. Vuadis remained at Barren Light while she and Varl exited the gate with Erend's support. Fortunately, the Savior managed to avoid a diplomatic incident with the Tenakth just before the Sky Clan arrived, allowing the Embassy to begin.
Accompanied by Nozar and a squad of guards, Vuadis exited Barren Light to meet with the Tenakth Marshals, but just as he began to officiate the Embassy, the Embassy was attacked by Regalla and her rebels. The Carja attempted to flee with Fashav back to Barren Light, but the rebels cornered them and the Carja garrison was unable to provide fire support. While Fashav stood his ground with Nozar, Vuadis frantically pleaded to be allowed into Barren Light's gates, only to be instantly killed by two arrows in the back.
Post-Moterm[]
While Vuadis was certainly not remembered fondly by Aloy, the Vanguard, or many of the guard at Barren Light, most pitied him for the death that befell him.
His body was taken back to Meridian and buried with his scrolls at the Temple of the Sun. Varl took one of his scrolls to decorate the Base.
Personality[]
- "STUDIOUS Vuadis."
- ―Vuadis
Vuadis is conceited, ill-tempered, and overall unpleasant in demeanor. He is overly insistent on formality, demanding to be referred to by his full title (correcting anyone who does not).
Vuadis is also bigoted, referring to the Nora Aloy with the archaic pejorative "savage” and labeling the Tenakth as barbarians.
