"Look, I swear I'm not drunk, but right now I'm seeing double!"

"Now I am on my way to perform an ancient Lowland trial in a place called the Valley of the Fallen."
Fashav[1]

The Valley of the Fallen is a location in Horizon Forbidden West.

Description[]

The Valley of the Fallen is a narrow canyon located in the southeast of the Raintrace, with a derelict Horus overgrown in vegetation looming above it.

History[]

The Valley of the Fallen holds great significance for the Tenakth, especially the Lowland Clan, with an ancient trial being held here:[1] survive in this dangerous cove for ten days and nights and take down any machine that stands in the way[2] in order to gain respect among the Lowland Clan[3] – a trial few survive when attempted.[1] Some attempt alone[1] while others work in groups.[3]

Hekarro ignited his legend by undergoing the trial, surviving in the Valley of the Fallen for three whole weeks, more than double what was required for the trial. After a dispute with Regalla, Fashav set out to attempt the trial as well in order to further prove his loyalty to the Tenakth,[1] and given his later appearances, he likely succeeded.

A few months before the events of Horizon Forbidden West, the Valley of the Fallen was closed off when several machines started being drawn in and strange streaks of light rising and falling from the sky started appearing on a nearby island off the coast.[2] In reality, the lights were shuttles being launched by Far Zenith to and from the Odyssey and from the shield surrounding their base,[4] and the increase in machines was due to Erik installing the Julius in the valley so it could lure machines in to keep the Tenakth away.[5] A total of 25 Tenakth were killed due to the Julius.[6][7][8]

Horizon Forbidden West[]

Wanting to run the trial regardless of the danger, Daxx, Kenalla and Yivekka ran the trial. Daxx planned for them to hunt every machine one by one until they cleared the valley. However, Yivekka was separated from the group after the third day while the way out was cut off by machines. Marshal Ivvira was sent to rescue the group, finding Daxx and Kenalla wounded and out of supplies. As they ran from the machines, Daxx wasn't able to keep up as Ivvira and Kenalla escaped,[3] likely being caught by the machines.

When Aloy searched the Valley of the Fallen, she found the Julius' lures and found the Zeniths' base on the island off the coast. Unable to do anything about the Zenith Base, she destroyed the machines and disabled the lures. In doing so, she found Yivekka alive in shelter just as Ivvira caught up, just in time to help Aloy defeat two Specters.
