- "The machine's built for underwater. But I wonder how nimble it is on land."
- ―Aloy upon sighting a Tideripper
The Tideripper is a machine in Horizon Forbidden West.
Appearance[]
The Tideripper is a large amphibious machine reminiscent of a plesiosaur. Its mouth contains a giant drill that can open each segment, two Purgewater guns on the sides of its head that shoot pressurized water beams, and two resource canisters on its "horns." It has four small Purgewater sacs lining its neck, and two bigger Purgewater sacs on its underbelly. It stands on four flipper-like appendages it uses for swimming and land traversal. On its back is a half-disc structure that can shoot water from three segments and can rotate. Sparkers and Glowblast Canisters are present in its hindquarters, and storage and Chillwater canisters are equipped on its tail, which ends in a larger flipper. In the center of the chest is the Tideripper's heart, and four big exhaust ports are present on the back and tailbase for when purgewater is depleted.
Behavior[]
Typical for large machines, the Tideripper is predominantly solitary. They are generally found in lakes or the ocean, where they filter sediment for resources. They only come onto dry land if they detect a threat (such as a hunter), although they will occasionally waddle onto shore.
Abilities[]
The Tideripper specializes in Purgewater attacks, which it can fire from cannons on its head and the rotating disc on its back. It can also use Purgewater to propel itself long distances, in order to attack far-away threats. Tiderippers also have a barrage of charging attacks, which include slamming into enemies or swiping them with its tail.
Tiderippers have a "wet" and "dry" mode where it uses its Purgewater pouches and sacs to continually vent a cooling mist to prevent it from overheating. If all of them are destroyed, it will become dry and start to overheat, which exposes an exhaust port above its tail. When dry, its resistances are flipped, making it vulnerable to Fire, neutral to Shock, and resistant to Frost.
Weaknesses[]
Destroying the tidal disk and Purgewater cannons leave it unable to shoot Purgewater. When depleted of water, it will expose its exhaust ports, which can be a viable weak spot. The heart on its chest is a massive structural weakness, and can be targeted for significant damage.

Purgewater damage disabled when Drenched. |
Mud Spit | Medium | Grounded | 80 Projectile | 20/s | 20m - 50m | Buries head in ground before spitting two projectiles coated in Purgewater. Projectiles explode on impact and leave residual Purgewater damage areas.
Purgewater damage disabled when Drenched. |
Water Spin | Medium | Grounded
Overwater |
149 Ranged | - | Tidal Disc begins spinning while shooting three pressurized streams of Purgewater for 30 seconds in a wide radius. Only triggers when below 80% and 40% HP.
Purgewater damage disabled when Drenched. |
