Squirrels are a species of wildlife in Horizon Zero Dawn: The Frozen Wilds and Horizon Forbidden West. When killed, they drop loot vital for several crafting recipes.
Squirrels can be found in the Cut, the Daunt, and No Man's Land, usually preferring heavily forested or areas or areas with tall grass that provide protection from predators.
Description[]
Squirrels will not attack or cause any harm to Aloy. Rather, they flee when Aloy gets close unless undetected. Their small size and speed make them difficult to hit with an arrow when fleeing, however they can be chased on foot.
Sometimes, squirrels will try to evade enemies by climbing trees, at which point they will eventually vanish into the leaves and disappear entirely.

When killed, squirrels will drop common items such as various types of meat but sometimes they will drop items that are useful for upgrading or trading with merchants. In Zero Dawn, they will drop Squirrel Skin or Squirrel Bone, while they will drop Squirrel Bone or Squirrel Hide in Forbidden West.
