The Spinetail Lancer is a heavy weapon in Horizon Forbidden West that deals Explosive and Plasma damage.
Acquisition[]
Spinetail Lancers can be shot off of the tail of a Slaughterspine with tear damage. Removing all three disables the machine's plasma beam fan and plasma geyser attacks.
Usage[]
The Spinetail Lancer fires a long laser beam which deals 150 Explosive damage and 50 Plasma buildup per second. Unlike when it is connected to the machine, the beam does not leave a trail of plasma on surfaces. Because it is a beam instead of a projectile, there is no travel time on the attacks. The weapon will overheat if fired continuously, using about 25 ammo before having to cool down (in Resolution mode). However, in Performance mode, the ammo consumed is halved before overheating.
Advantages[]
- High damage per second.
- Constant firing and high ammo count allow for a lot of damage and plasma build up from one lancer.
- Three Spinetail Lancers can be obtained from one Slaughterspine.
- No travel time and pinpoint accuracy make it very easy to use.
Disadvantages[]
- Limited ammo supply.
- Overheating disables the Spinetail Lancer for a few seconds. Especially noticeable on Performance mode, where the weapon overheats twice as fast.
- A limited, though rather long, range beam.
- Like all heavy weapons, the Spinetail Lancer slows Aloy down when she wields it.
- The machine it comes from, the Slaughterspine, is resistant to Plasma, making the Spinetail Lancer's Plasma buildup nigh useless against it.
