Smoke bomb

A Clawstrider is hit by a smoke bomb

Smoke bombs are a tool seen in the Horizon Zero Dawn comic series and Horizon Forbidden West. When used, they create a cloud of thick smoke that blinds enemies.

History[]

Amadis used a smoke bomb to rescue Talanah and Talvo from a black-armored Clawstrider that was preparing to attack them.[1]

Six months later, Aloy would be given some smoke bombs and learned how to craft them by either coming across Telga and Fendur at The Daunt fending off machines, or Jelda at No Man's Land fighting off Regalla's Rebels.

Gameplay[]

In game, deploying a smoke bomb creates a cloud of smoke centered on Aloy's position. Enemies within 35 meters of this are inflicted with the Confused status, which prevents them from keeping track of Aloy's position for 10 seconds, unless she damages them with an attack. This will immediately remove the status.

Even if enemies aren't caught within the status effect range, the smoke acts as temporary concealment, making it more difficult for enemies to detect Aloy.

After learning the recipe to create smoke bombs, they can be crafted in the field or at a workbench. Merchants will also begin to carry them.

If the Burning Shores DLC is installed, the skill Smoke Bomb Heal is available to learn. This automatically makes Smoke Bombs become Healing Smoke Bombs, allowing Aloy to gradually regain health within the smoke cloud.
