The Shadow Stalwart is an outfit in Horizon Zero Dawn.

Description[]

"This Kestrel armor will make for a good disguise, and steels its wearer against blinding and sonic effects. Highly customizable."
―Inventory description

The Shadow Stalwart outfit is produced by the Shadow Carja tribe, and provides immunity to several status effects along with a high number of Modification slots.

This outfit can be obtained in Light, Medium, or Heavy varieties, with an increasing number of mod slots and immunities.

In New Game+, the Heavy variant of this outfit is no longer sold by Merchants, and is replaced by an Adept version with an additional modification slot.

Use[]

Equip to become immune to certain status effects. Best used when engaging enemies with attacks that disable Aloy, such as Watchers or Longlegs.

Following The Terror of the Sun, this outfit must be worn when entering Sunfall until the main quest has been completed. It behaves as a disguise, allowing Aloy to blend in while visiting the hostile tribe's capital city.

Trivia[]

  • As the Carja culture is patriarchal with women, leaving them usually unable to or have difficulty with rising in political or military ranks even after Avad's reformation, it is unknown why the outfit could work as a disguise for Aloy at the politically conservative Sunfall, especially since it does not conceal her signature red hair.
  • Unlike other outfits when starting NG+, all Shadow Stalwart outifts will be removed from Aloy's inventory along with any modifications attached.
  • Despite the description mentioning it as a disguise, Shadow Carja soldiers at Kestrel's Perch and the Shadow Carja Outpost remain hostile and will attack Aloy on sight if she has the Shadow Stalwart equipped.
  • Shadow Stalwart cannot be seen in any merchant's stocks until the player completes The Terror of the Sun, thus it cannot be purchased until that time.
  • The Shadow Stalwart Heavy makes a reappearance in Horizon Forbidden West as the Carja Shadow outfit.
  • The Shadow Stalwart Medium and Heavy don't protect against the noisemakers in the stairway leading to Dervahl's basement, despite their ability to protect against blinding and sonic effects.
