The Scrounger is a machine in Horizon Forbidden West. It is a small Acquisition class machine very similar in appearance and function to Scrappers and quickly tears off pieces of dead machines for gathering and recycling of resources. It is equipped with offensive weaponry to be used against threats.

Scroungers were originally designed by GAIA as a part of the terraforming system, presumably to scavenge and reuse materials from destroyed machines.

Aloy first encountered Scroungers at the Far Zenith Launch Facility, suggesting that they either appeared recently or are simply newer additions to the lands east of Barren Light.

Appearance[]

The Scrounger looks like a hyena with a close resemblance to the Scrapper, another Acquisition class machine. It is small, with minor armor around the head, shoulders, thighs, and feet. Its face is similar to a non-armored Scrapper, with three circular saws in each mandible. On its back is a small resource container, and on its hindquarters a power cell.

It has a sentry variant that is nearly the same, but its back is replaced with an antenna.

Behavior[]

Scroungers behave identically to Scrappers: their role appears to be the processing and recycling of machine carcasses, and they are frequently found in packs.

During combat situations Scroungers prioritize salvaging torn off machine parts, including Heavy Weapons, unlike other scavengers like Scrappers and Glinthawks which prioritize salvaging machine carcasses. Like other scavenger machines, they can sometimes appear if there are unlooted machine carcasses in certain areas.

Sentry Scroungers are equipped with antenna that allows them to call in reinforcements if a threat is detected.

Abilities[]

Weaknesses[]

The Scrounger and Sentry Scrounger are weak to acid and frost, while they can be dangerous in packs their machine components have no protective armor and are easy targets for damage. Its Power Cell component can trigger a shock explosion that immediately shocks it. Apex variants are weak to shock, making this strategy even more useful.

Attacks[]

Name Windup Time Damage Trigger Range Description
Reverse Crush Very Short 125 Melee 0m - 5m Extremely fast bite used to fend off threats from any angle at close range. Creates a spherical shockwave when its jaws snap shut.
Snap Crush Short 75 Melee 8m - 12m Lunges at target while swinging its head and biting. Creates a spherical shockwave around its jaws when biting.
Crushing Lunge Short 125 Melee 10m - 20m Rushes toward target before leaping in the air while biting, releasing a spherical shockwave when its jaws snap shut. Turns 180o as it lands.

Attack disabled when Slowed.

Rising Crusher Short 125 Melee 7m - 11m Picks up speed and jumps in rising uppercut motion towards target, snapping its jaws 3 times before landing. Each bite creates a spherical shockwave around its jaws.

Desperation Attack

Shock Burst Short Shock-Icon 25, Shock-Icon 25 buildup 10m - 60m Uses its mouth to fire a burst of up to 6 Shock projectiles at target.

Attack disabled when Drenched.

Shock Blast Medium Shock-Icon 150, Shock-Icon75 buildup 12m - 60m Charges up its mouth and hurls a powerful Shock projectile travelling at medium speed in an arcing trajectory that creates a Shock explosion on impact.

Attack disabled when Drenched.
