- "If you can hear this, shelter is close by. Follow my voice."
- ―Ron[3]
Ron is a minor character in Horizon Forbidden West: Burning Shores.
History[]
Ron was a soldier[4] during Operation: Enduring Victory, fighting against the Faro Plague in Los Angeles, during which his leg got injured in an accident. Ron didn't see his squad as much fun, considering them to be kind of the worst.[1]
When the squad received the order to immediately evacuate, Ron prepared by taking inventory, only to find himself left behind by his squad. He believed this was due to the orders to dump any unnecessary weight, which included him due to his injury. Ron settled himself into a building to survive in, changing the security code to his birthday and left a repeating audio message inviting people to join him.[1][3] Ron spent some time surviving on water and food,[3] much of which being bland cans of blander tasting baked beans.[5]
At some point, Ron's message was heard by Brianne, who joined him after roaming empty city alone for hours. They spent several days together, playing Bean Can Bowling and taking the cargo carts for a joyride. However, as the biosphere degraded and the atmosphere became unbreathable, they used emergency oxygen in order to survive. Once that ran out, they switched to oxygen tanks left behind by the med team. Ron and Brianne spent their last few days watching old holos of Santa Monica Kitchen Wars. Once they were down to one tank left, Ron gave it to Brianne as he wanted her to be able to watch the season finale.[6]
Legacy[]
After Ron's passing, Brianne held a funeral for him, in which she wrote a datapoint thanking him for his friendship.[6]
Nearly a thousand years later, Ron's message was still repeating when it was heard by Gildun. Olvar went into the ruin after Gildun told him about it, followed shortly after by Gildun, looking to reunite with him.[7] Aloy also heard the message, being lured into the ruin to investigate, in which she found an Ornament,[8] and then was reunited with Gildun, much to each of their delights. Using datapoints left by Ron to help them get through the ruin, the two were able to discover the fate of Olvar, as well as Ron.[9]
