Rokomo is a character in Horizon Forbidden West: Burning Shores.
History[]
Rokomo is the Risk Specialist assigned to Compliance Officer Rheng on the Eastern Expedition. During the voyage, the fleet was split in two, with Rokomo's half winding up stranded in the Burning Shores with no clue regarding the fate of the others.
Rheng assigned Rokomo to infiltrate Diviner Enki's expedition, suspecting he was up to something. When the party made camp on a southern island, Rokomo spotted Enki and one of his guards, Kelva, and overheard them discussing a manifest. His cover was soon blown before he could hear more, forcing him to kill Kelva and drag Enki away. However, a gyre dragged by a Tideripper destroyed their boat, marooning them on another island, where they were attacked by more machines. To his surprise, Enki threw himself in front of a machine to save Rokomo. With his dying breath, he stated that they do terrible things because they have no choice. Enki's death had a profound effect on Rokomo, making him want to undo his mistakes.[1]
Events of Horizon Forbidden West: Burning Shores[]
Rokomo remained beset by machines before being rescued by Aloy, who was searching for Enki's expedition. After falsely telling her that his party was attacked by machines and he was forced to escort Enki to safety, Rokomo asked her to search for the other members of his expedition while he made his way back to Fleet's End on a makeshift raft, despite the risk that she would find out what really happened.[2]
Upon his return, he was confronted by Aloy, who had found the other expedition members dead from a machine attack, forcing him to confess the truth of what happened. When Aloy demanded he stand up against Rheng, Rokomo expressed hesitancy, knowing that Rheng would report to the Board of Compliance, which would result in his imprisonment until she encouraged him to follow Enki's example. Rokomo then intervened in Rheng's attempted arrest of Theoa, confessing before Admiral Gerrit of his identity as a Risk Specialist, resulting Rheng's detainment for overstepping his authority.[2]
After giving his report to the Admiral, Rokomo was given free reign around the camp until his court martial back in the Great Delta. Though Gerrit vowed to vouch for him, Rokomo predicted he would likely be sent to prison, which he considered a better fate than dying alone on an island. Fortuitously, he was recruited into Theoa's resistance movement undermining the Board of Compliance that he might make contact with high ranking prisoners the Quen couldn't risk martyring.[2]
