Repair-Bay TAU, known as the Sacred Cave to the Utaru, is a machine repair Cauldron in Horizon Forbidden West. It is located west of Plainsong and is directly connected to a facility above it in the mountain.
Description[]
The only known facility of its kind, Repair-Bay TAU is a unique Cauldron that specializes in machine repair as well as fabrication. The interior of the Repair-Bay connects to Regional Control Center-9, suggesting that it was intended as part of the greater facility.
For generations, it was used by the land-gods for routine maintenance. Thus, the Utaru consider the cave that TAU is inside of sacred, and forbid entry to any humans.
Varl describes the interior of TAU as "cold as winter."[1]
History[]
While the intended occupants of the Regional Control Center never reached the facility, Repair-Bay TAU continued to fulfill its intended purpose, repairing the Plowhorns that tended the fields. As the Utaru tribe came to inhabit the surrounding lands, they took notice of these "land-gods" entering a cave and returning in pristine condition two days later. The tribe interpreted this as a sacred ritual of renewal, and marked each event with a holiday.[2]
Sometime after the original GAIA’s self-destruction, the land-gods stopped returning to TAU. Without routine maintenance, they slowly began to broke down and malfunction.[2]
At some point, HEPHAESTUS took control of TAU and summoned one of the land-gods, Fa, back. While this gave hope to the Utaru that the cycle was restarting, their hopes fell when Fa didn't return. Apex machines began coming out of the Repair Bay, prompting the Utaru to form a cordon to keep them at bay.[2]
When the cordon fell, Aloy, Varl and Zo entered the sacred cave and the Repair-Bay, finding Fa inside, converted into a Grimhorn. After taking down Fa, the trio continued into the Regional Control Center.[3]
