Rats are a species of wildlife in Horizon Zero Dawn commonly found in dark or wet locations, and will drop loot vital for several crafting recipes.

Combat

Rats will not attack or cause any harm to the player. Rather they will flee quickly and evasively when Aloy gets close unless undetected.

Loot Acquired

When killed, Rats will drop Tiny Meat (they do not drop Bony, Fatty, or Rich Meat) but sometimes they will drop either Rat Skin or Rat Bone, both very valuable items that are useful for trading with merchants.

Trivia

Rats are the sole in-game source of Tiny Meat.
