Executive Summary: Our engineering team has made great strides in developing a prototype Nuclear Thermal Rocket that can provide significantly more thrust than traditional liquid-based boosters. There is little doubt that our proprietary designs for miniature fission reactors would eventually result in cheaper, smaller, and more efficient engines, capable of achieving launch velocity for significant payloads.
That said, our radiation shielding is insufficient to protect the environment from large-scale exposure to fallout. Estimates suggest that, upon launch, the current model could contaminate a radius of up to a thousand miles at lethal levels, depending on wind conditions. The work required to reach comprehensive regulatory targets for shielding would almost certainly be cost-prohibitive.
