- "Honestly, I think... I just needed to prove to myself I could do this."
- ―Penttoh
Penttoh is a character in Horizon Forbidden West.
History[]
Growing up behind the Bulwark,[1] Penttoh never had the warrior mindset or physical prowess typical for his people, often being seen as useless by fellow Tenakth.[1][2][3] Due to this, he spent most of his early life and childhood stuck on cleaning duty.[2]
Horizon Forbidden West[]
In an effort to prove his people wrong and finally earn their respect and a place in a squad, Penttoh chose to undergo the Sky Clan's most dangerous trial: The March of the Ten, which includes climbing a mountain and return with a Blood Crest flower that only blooms at the peak. Wanting to prove everyone wrong about him,[1] he chose to break tradition and climb without a partner,[2] although Aloy believed it was because no one wanted to climb with him,[4] but since there were technically no rules against it, Wekatta allowed him to go. When he initially failed to return, Wekatta saw any rescue attempts as futile due to the bad weather.[2]

While climbing the mountain, Penttoh saw Rokko get caught in an avalanche, risking his own life to save him before continuing up, against Rokko's advice.[5] He encountered a herd of Leaplashers shortly before Aloy caught up with him, helping him defeat the machines. Aloy tried to convince Penttoh to abandon the climb, but he refused to return a failure. Aloy relented, insisting that she be his partner. Destroying a Frostclaw on the way up, they succeeding in summiting the mountain as the weather improved. With the Blood Crest in hand, Penttoh realised that he needed to prove to himself that is was capable of doing it.[6]
Returning to the base of the mountain, Penttoh was reunited with his sister, Jekkah, and presented the Blood Crest to Wekatta, who accepted it and welcomed Penttoh into their squad. When a fellow climber tried to berate Penttoh, he responded with a headbutt to the face, knocking the climber off his feet. Rokko thanked Penttoh for saving his life, suggesting that they fight in the same squad once he gets his own soldier's mark and give him a chance to return the favor. As Rokko walked away, Jekkah teased her brother by saying that Rokko was cute. Before leaving himself, Penttoh thanked Aloy for helping him.[6]
