The Mate Blessing,[1] sometimes formatted as Mate-Blessing,[2][3] is a ritual performed within the Nora tribe to allow two people to have children.
Description[]
Nora women propose a Mate Blessing to men they wish to have children with. The Mate Blessing is then conducted by a Matriarch, and only then the two mates are allowed to have a child. The resulting child is seen as an inviolable compact between the two parents, with clear responsibilities that bind the parents together so long as the child lives.[1]
Women can dissolve a Mate Blessing at any time and retain full parental rights over their children. However, men are still expected to continue their parental duties even if his Mate Blessing has been dissolved.[1]
It is forbidden to have children without first receiving a Mate Blessing.[1]
Trivia[]
- A Mate Blessing is not required to engage in a romantic or sexual relationship.[1]
- Immediate Mate Blessings are sometimes requested by winners of the Proving as their boon.[3]
