A Marshal at the embassy

High Marshal Javveh at the Carja Embassy

"Without them, I cannot rule."
―Chief Hekarro on his Marshals

Marshals are a rank in the Tenakth, serving as the direct subordinates of the Chief.

History[]

The rank of Marshal was formed by Hekarro sometime after his ascension to chiefdom. Like many of his unification policies, the name and position derives from the Vision of Anne Faraday's call for peace.

Role[]

"In practice, Marshals are Hekarro's roving lawgivers - part magistrate, part judge, part executioner."
―Fashav

Marshals serve as peacekeepers and enforcers of the Chief's will. They travel between the clans as necessary to resolve disputes. If necessary, they can give punishment as they see fit, including permanent exile or death. They also serve as representatives for the tribe in matters regarding other tribes, such as the embassies with the Carja.

To become a Marshal, one must survive the Kulrut: a trial-by-combat against a machine in the Arena. A Kulrut is held whenever the Chief demands it, and aspirants from all three clans are sent to compete.

It is possible (albeit extremely rare) for outlanders to compete in the Kulrut as well, as shown with Fashav.

Attire[]

Marshals adorn themselves in the Chief's colors: white and pale grey, accented with blue and yellow. Beyond this coloration, Marshals generally wear armor similar to what is found in their respective clans.

Trivia[]

  • The Enduring wears the same colors of the Marshals, indicating that she might have once served as one. However, this is just speculation.
  • The title of High Marshal suggests that there is a Marshal leader amongst all other Marshals, possibly the Chief's second in command.
