Karst is a minor character in Horizon Zero Dawn.
History[]
Karst was cast out from the tribe by the Matriarchs for five years after he was caught exploring Old World ruins, which is forbidden by Nora law as this is believed to taint the person. Once he served his term, Karst returned home to Mother's Heart only to discover that everyone he knew had moved on and he felt it was too crowded. Seeing that there was nothing left for him there, Karst chose to return to the house he had grown accustomed to during his time as an outcast.[1]
Horizon Zero Dawn[]
Likely because of his own history as an outcast, Karst was willing to talk to and trade with Aloy while she was an outcast, even though it is against tribal law to speak to outcasts, with Aloy saving up resources to by a Tripcaster from him. Karst was concerned about Aloy trading with other merchants and that she might tell people about his crimes once she became a Brave, to which Aloy insisted that she wouldn't.[2]
Karst met Aloy in Mother's Heart, warning her to pretend like they had never met before.[3]
During the Eclipse's invasion of the Embrace, Karst managed to take down a corrupted Watcher, but was killed in the process. His body can later be found by Aloy.

Possible early rendition of Karst.
- Karst's face strongly resembles that of a man seen in early footage of Horizon Zero Dawn presenting an unknown weapon to Aloy. Whether this man is Karst is unknown.
- It's also possible that this man is an early rendition of Rost, as he wears the same Death-Seeker face paint, has a similar body frame, and his outfit and hair vaguely resemble Rost's.
- Karst name may be a reference to Karst topography, which is a landscape formed from the dissolution of soluble rocks, such as limestone, dolomite and gypsum, and is characterized by underground drainage systems with sinkholes and caves.
- Karst wears the same face paint as Teb and the Nora Keeper.
- Karst is the only deceased merchant in the game.
