Jaxx is a character in Horizon Forbidden West.
History[]
Born in Tenakth territory but living in Utaru lands, Jaxx is one of the few remaining Veterans (Tenakth warriors that had been offered to the Utaru in exchange for tribute as part of a peace-keeping trade). His initial clan affiliation is never stated, although his tattoos and face paint suggest the Desert Clan.
Jaxx initially struggled as a Veteran, but upon seeing his work pay off in his Utaru students' skills, he began to accept Plainsong as home and find a place among his new tribe. Among his new home, he made a friend with Emboh, occasionally sharing drinks with him.
Helping Eagle Squad[]
Upon hearing a rumor about Tenakth loitering nearby Stone's Echo, Jaxx left Plainsong to investigate. He soon realized that the Tenakth squad was in need of help, but was cautious to approach them, knowing an offer of help could be taken as an insult. While the other Utaru were unwilling to engage, especially with the threat of the rebels, he was able to enlist the help of the outlander Aloy, whom he saw before the Chorus. Jaxx managed to convince the squad to parley, and was allowed inside the cave they were holed up in: one member, Korreh, was blinded, having received a face full of acid from a Bristleback. After some discussion, Jaxx and Aloy left with Sokorra, one of the squad members, to retrieve an old Tenakth cache from the ruin of Riverwatch.
Tenakth and former Tenakth bickered along the way: Sokorra was displeased at receiving help from a "washed-up farmer", and Jaxx treated the headstrong young warrior passive-aggressively and with a smidge of condescension. However, they eventually developed a sense of mutual respect, especially after fighting off a herd of Widemaws and Leaplashers together. When the stash turned out to be smaller than anticipated, Sokorra's reaction proved Jaxx's suspicions: to spare Korreh from an execution for his blindness, the squad was planning to live in the wilds.
A new ward[]
At Aloy's suggestion, Jaxx took Korreh under his wing and brought him to Plainsong, allowing for the rest of the squad to return to the tribe and Korreh to live in safety. Understanding the difficulty in finding a sense of belonging in a foreign tribe, Jaxx did his best to help his new ward.
