MEMPHIS - July 21, 2054 - To many people, Mary O'Neil's decision to marry her partner of 18 years might not seem strange, but then again, they may not realize that Tony O'Neil died three years ago.
It was a year after Tony's death that Mary visited HoloLamentation to pay for her partner to be "regenerated." The company's Grief Range pairs an AI with a holographic recreation of a loved one's appearance to generate a close facsimile of the deceased.
Customers can choose to regenerate loved ones as they were on the day they met, or the day they departed. And while many might have chosen a younger model, Mary has paid for Tony to age with her over the years.
'It's so good to know he'll be there for me going forward', said Mary, 'He doesn't argue as much and he can't make my dinner. But, he's there. He listens and he cracks the same jokes'.
While the marriage might not be officially recognized, Mary's friends attended a small ceremony that saw the pair pledged to share the rest of their natural and battery-powered lives together. And one thing's for sure, with Mary holding the off switch, this is one marriage where the wife doesn't have to worry about her husband remaining faithful.
