Heaven¢ (i.e. "Heaven Cent") was an old-world corporation specializing in near-earth asteroid mining.
History[]
Walter Londra founded Heaven¢ in the 21st century. In the year 2050, Heaven¢ completed its first successful mining operation upon transferring the asteroid OPHELIA into Earth’s orbit and stripping it of 4 thousand tons of precious metals.[1] The year 2054 provided Heaven¢ with another successful mission after the transferal of platinum-rich asteroid JULIET into Earth’s orbit.[2] In 2056, Heaven¢ came into conflict with one of its chief competitors: the Chinese-based Xiaolu Lunar Resources Inc. Xiaolu’s lobbying efforts would result in Heaven¢'s mining of asteroid KATHERINA being blocked by the U.S. Congress. Heaven¢ responded with lobbying efforts of their own.[3]
However, not all of Heaven¢'s operations were successful. In 2061, an accident during the orbital excavation phase of asteroid CALIBAN killed 8 miners, sparking an international uproar. Walter Londra would call this event “the price of progress”. [4] Another incident occurred on asteroid PROSPERO, where a splinter cell of Purity Action Europe planted several operatives among the asteroid’s miners. All operatives were killed when attempting to disable automated defenses protecting the asteroid. Had the operatives gotten control of PROSPERO, they could have destabilized the asteroid’s orbit and used it to target and destroy several European cities.
The possibility of asteroids being used as weapons prompted Heaven¢ to develop the Mutiny Suppression Protocol (MSP), a mind control technology that would compel their miners and astronauts to follow orders unconditionally.[5] However, MSP was abandoned after it was discovered to make those under its influence highly aggressive. Heaven¢ would also work on a Nuclear Thermal Rocket prototype (dubbed Project Slipstream). However, Heaven¢ engineers found that nuclear fallout could contaminate a radius of up to one thousand miles upon launching the rocket. Heaven¢'s Board of Directors would terminate the project upon hearing this.[6]
Sometime after his first successful mining operations, Walter Londra would attempt to buy Griffith Observatory from the city of Los Angeles to be turned into Heaven¢'s new headquarters.[7] Heaven¢ would face 22 lawsuits and a congressional investigation into their attempts to buy the observatory, but in the end, they won out.[8] Control of the observatory was transferred over to Heaven¢ and a $3 billion renovation ensued, adding a vast underground facility beneath the existing observatory.
Legacy[]
A millennia after the Faro Plague, Walter Londra and the surviving members of Far Zenith’s Sirius colony would return to Earth. In anticipation of Nemesis’ arrival, Londra would head south to the Burning Shores, in search of ancient Heaven¢ technology that could help him escape Earth. Upon arrival in the Burning Shores, Londra would gain a cult-like following from the shipwrecked Quen, whom he used to excavate Heaven¢'s ruined headquarters. Londra would unearth the Project Slipstream Thermal Nuclear Rocket prototype and revive the Mutiny Suppression Protocol to gain absolute control over the Quen. Londra planned to print the body of a rocket via the manufacturing bay of a derelict BOR7-Horus and use the Slipstream nuclear engine to bring him and a handful of obedient Quen off-world and away from Nemesis. Walter’s plan would be thwarted after his death during a battle against Aloy and Quen marine Seyka.
