A Gene Locked Hatch[1] is an automated door that utilizes Identiscan to determine someone's identity via their DNA when they request entry, and either accept and open for them or deny entry.
Appearance[]
Most gene locked hatches come in the form of a large circle with six panels that lift up and reveal a triangular section. This section then rotates and lowers into the ground to allow passage. The gaps between the panels change color to indicate the current state, red for when the Identiscan is being performed, and sometimes blue while opening.

Some gene locked hatches come in the form of the basic double doors that slide apart to allow passage.[2][3]
Function[]
Identiscan scanning Aloy.[4]
When someone approaches a gene locked hatch, it will tell them to hold for Identiscan and project a red beam of light to scan their DNA. If accepted, the hatch will open and welcome the person by name. A genetic match of 99.47% is considered acceptable by gene locked hatches. If the person cannot be identified, the gene locked hatch will refuse entry.[5][2] Hatches can be scanned with a Focus to reveal who it will open for.[6]
If the inability to identify someone is due to corrupted files, the hatch will refuse entry to everyone.[5] Corrupted files can be corrected by installing an intact version of the file at the hatch itself.[2] Additionally, Identiscan is unable to distinguish clones from their genetic original, identifying Aloy and Beta as Elisabet Sobeck, allowing them to open any gene locked hatch that Elisabet also could.

Gene locked hatches have a voice command function, shown when Aloy verbally requested access when the hatch was unable to open due to mechanical failure, it acknowledged her request and granted her access to the root command functions, allowing her to permit the hatch to diagnose the problem and initiate the emergency venting procedure to circumvent the blockage.[4]
Some gene locked hatches have an emergency exit function, activated with a console on the inner side of the hatch. This bypasses the Identiscan, allowing anyone to open the hatch.[6]
Gene locked hatches are incredibly resiliant, with most being fully intact and functional after centuries of never being used. Sylens noted that he is unable to break through gene locked hatches, failing to do so via drilling, burning and blasting.[7][1] However, their function can be impeded due to mechanical failure, such as due to facility damage[4] or Firegleam growing in the hatch.[8]
Known Gene Locked Hatches[]

ELEUTHIA-9 | When ELEUTHIA-9's Alpha Registry was corrupted by a virus released by HADES, the gene locked hatch could no longer open for anyone.[9] This was later fixed by Aloy by installing an intact copy of the Alpha Registry, allowing it to work as intended again.[2]

ELEUTHIA-9 (inner area) | This door separates the Lyceum from the rest of the facility. It wouldn't open for the people born within ELEUTHIA-9.[10]

GAIA Prime | Despite his best efforts, Sylens was unable to breach this door.[7]

LATOPOLIS | Due to Firegleam growing in the hatch, it was unable to fully open. When Aloy detonated the Firegleam, the explosion was able to jolt the door enough to open far enough for people to get through. This hatch appears to be stuck in semi-open position.[8]

Thebes | This gene locked hatch had a console on the inside, which allowed anyone to activate the emergency exit function, bypassing the Identiscan.[6] From outside, this hatch would only open for Ted Faro.[12]

Zero Dawn Project Facility | Due to damage to the facility caused by the construction of Sunfall, this gene locked hatch was initially unable to open. However, after utilizing the emergency venting procedure to clear a blockage, it became able to function as intended again.[4] |
Trivia[]
The entrance to All-Mother Mountain.
- The entrance to All-Mother Mountain has the same design as most gene locked hatches, albeit permanently open and with Nora construction around it. Whether this is another gene locked hatch is unclear.
