- "We rely as much on beasts as we do on machines. For food. For warmth. But do we study them with the same fervor?"
- ―Enjuk
Enjuk is a minor character in Horizon Zero Dawn: The Frozen Wilds. He is the Animal Figurine Specialty Merchant, trading Collectible Figurine Reward Boxes for Animal Figurines.
History[]
A Banuk Shaman with a curiosity about both contemporary and pre-extinction fauna, Enjuk at some point discovered one of seven animal figurines produced by the company known as Montana Recreations to commemorate extinct animals , and noticed that it matched a totem in the ruins of the Visitor Center at Yellowstone National Park, which in the new world had come to be known as Hollow Hall. On installing the totem in the slot in the corresponding viewer, he beheld the hologram of the animal that appeared and heard the pre-recorded announcer's voice call the animal's scientific name and common name, as well as its credit of MonRec: "Brought to you by Montana Recreations!"
Enthralled by what he had seen and bereft of any knowledge of the old world, he believed that Montana Recreations was a person; indeed he believed him to be "perhaps the finest natural scholar the Old World ever produced". He dedicated himself to continuing MonRec's work by recovering the other 6 totems. He took residence in Hollow Hall to study the holographic recreations of extinct wildlife and dubbed the location "the Shrine of Forgotten Beasts." He considers himself to be the apprentice of Montana Recreations, hoping one day to become Enjuk Recreations in his memory.
When the Nora huntress Aloy encountered him in Hollow Hall, Enjuk shares his discoveries, and asked her to find the other six figurines. Aloy did so, much to his joy.
Personality[]
Enjuk considers himself a "student of the natural world" and holds a deep fascination for contemporary and extinct fauna. However, his theories are based solely on deductive reasoning, due to being completely bereft of any pre-extinction knowledge, including zoological knowledge. This leads to many of his theories being completely wrong. However, he represents a significant though unrecognized milestone in the development of the new world, in that his work marks the beginning of the rediscovery of the science of zoology.
