Gendas: "You told me they were the best delving crew in the Claim!"
Rushavid: "You told me we'd be drowning in artifacts!"

Drowned Hopes is a side quest in Horizon Forbidden West.

Synopsis[]

Upon arriving at a Carja Camp in No Man's Land, Aloy overhears two Carja scholars, Gendas and Rushavid, arguing. They explain that they have come to the Forbidden West upon after hearing of a lake filled with ancient' relics. Gendas reveals to Aloy a handheld relic he had uncovered before fleeing the dig site. Scanning it with her Focus, Aloy uncovers a bank of data referencing a "Mobile Cover System". Recognizing it as a potentially useful tool for combat, she inquires further into their expedition. Gendas explains that they had hoped to uncover what had unfolded at the lake while excavating the relics, and so they had established a dig site and hired an Oseram delving crew. However, machines have pushed them out of the site. Divided on their next course of action, Gendas hopes to return to the dig site once the machines are cleared out, while Rushavid believes the expeiditon to be a waste of time and shards. Aloy agrees to clear out the machines while she follows up the data revealed by Gendas’ relic.

Traveling first to each of the three coordinates, Aloy uncovers a Vault Key secured by a Security Console. Upon retrieving it, a recording from the Old Ones’ plays, revealing that that the key was one of three needed to unlock the Mobile Cover System, a device to aid in their battle against the machines. Navigating the wreckage and uncovering what had transpired, Aloy recovers the three vault keys. Led then to a last set of coordinates for the vault. Traveling through an underwater cave, a bunker hidden in the mountain holds the vault. Inside, lay the blueprints for the Mobile Cover System’s prototype.

Aloy returns to the Carja Camp to recount the battle between the Old Ones and the machines, with a last unsuccessful and desperate push for the Mobile Cover System. With the prototype and Gendas’ relic however, Aloy is able to craft a Guardian Tripcaster.
