Drakka is a character in Horizon Forbidden West.

History[]

Drakka is the leader of the Desert Tenakth settlement Arrowhand. He is a prominent member of his clan but has feuded with many members. A few years prior, he had a dispute with Grudda (the future champion of Regalla) over machine hunts, with Drakka insisting that hunting more dangerous machines was not worth the potential casualties. The dispute required intervention from Marshal Fashav, who sided with Drakka on the matter.

By the time the rebellion began, animosity was bubbling between Drakka and his clan's commander, Yarra. Aside from his own political aspirations, Drakka believed Yarra to be unnecessarily stingy with the clan's water, especially with the greater risks his people had to take for their supply.

One of Drakka's men, Ukktah, created a water crisis for the clan by damaging the pump that led to the Wound in the Sand, the clan's primary supply of water. According to Drakka, he had known Ukktah found a water source (which both men believed unrelated to the Wound in the Sand), but not what Ukktah had done. If Drakka's account is to be believed, then it comes at great irony that Ukktah's mistake was a result of Drakka's search for alternate water supplies, in hopes of alleviating the strain on Arrowhand.

Tensions rising[]

Aloy arrives at Arrowhand where she encounters Drakka and the clan's Chaplain, Jetakka. Drakka explains his plight with Yarra to Aloy and that Desert soldiers have went missing. She agrees to help him find these soldiers and they depart to fight machines who killed them. Drakka thanks her and Jetakka advises her to meet him in the Desert's capital, Scalding Spear to see this feud end.

When Drakka came to the capital to exchange the gathered machine parts for water, he went to the Wound and found it empty.

Yarra and Aloy fix the capital's pipe issues, slowly but surely solving the water shortage. One of Drakka's squad members was ordered by him to fix the water pipe issues but died in the process. Yarra accuses Drakka of creating a crisis by sabotaging the water supply to challenge her command. Furious, Drakka denies the accusation, insisting the damage to the pipe was a mistake he did not order, and calls Yarra out for keeping the shortage a secret. They challenge each other to a battle for command and gather their most loyal squads to battle at the entrance to Cauldron GEMINI.

Aloy and Jetakka are horrified at this escalation since they would have to kill each other's supporters across the Desert Clan which would destroy the already quarreling clan. When their attempt to stop the battle are unsuccessful, Aloy must choose which one to back.

If she backs Yarra, Drakka will be killed in the ensuing fight. If she backs him, Yarra will be killed and Drakka will gladly assume command of the Desert Clan.

Actions as Commander (determinant)[]

Burdens of leadership[]

The clan accepts Drakka as the new commander without much conflict: Arrowhand is especially pleased for one of their own to be leading the clan. However, Drakka soon began to feel the weight of his responsibilities, and the often belligerent demands of the other clan leaders forced him to understand why Yarra acted in the way she did.

A child within the clan goes missing which greatly disturbs him, especially when Yarra's vulture arrives with a piece of cloth belonging to a Desert Tenakth child. Aloy deduces with her Focus that the kid is located where the materials of the cloth are formed. Drakka goes on this errand with her in order to improve his image to the Desert Clan.

The two battle a Thunderjaw and a Stormbird but save the child. Drakka calms the child before thanking Aloy for the help. He later escorts the child back to Scalding Spear.

Battle of the Grove[]

Drakka and the Desert Clan arrive in the battle at the Memorial Grove. Aloy meets him after the battle and explains he could not stay behind while the Grove and Chief Hekarro were in danger.

Personality[]

Drakka is an opportunistic and hotheaded person but ultimately does have the Desert Clan's best interests at heart. Like many Desert Tenakth, he is stubborn and set in his ways. Despite his political inclinations and machismo, he is a brave and skilled warrior who will put his life on the line to protect his people.

Drakka is loyal to the Tenakth and his clan but will not spectate when problems arise. Despite this, he shares the Desert's mentality to remain neutral until Regalla's rebellion is over, until he and the clan arrive to aid Hekarro. Drakka is very lax when it comes to Tenakth traditions, questioning his superiors and paying little attention to formality or title.
