This page contains a list of all cut items, including weapons, outfits, machine resources and other items, as well as other notable changes that some items in the final game went through during the development of the Horizon series.

Horizon Zero Dawn[]

Cut Items[]

Copper[]

As revealed in the files for The Point of the Spear in the localization files of Horizon Zero Dawn Complete Edition, Copper was an item that would be placeable by Aloy.[1]

Fire Blaze Trap[]

As revealed in the E3 2016 Gameplay Video, a trap named the Fire Blaze Trap was planned to be in the game, but was cut from the final game.[2]

Meaty Meat[]

As revealed in the localization files of Horizon Zero Dawn Complete Edition, Meaty Meat was a cut item that Aloy could obtain by looting boars or rabbits, three of which would be needed to be collected in a cut quest.[3]

War Pick[]

The War Pick was a cut weapon. The only recovered information about the War Pick is its name and a description: "The War Pick is a brutal weapon from a more brutal period in Meridian's history." These were found within the localization files of Horizon Zero Dawn Complete Edition.[4]

Wingsuit/Mesa Wingsuit[]

The Wingsuit was a cut item. The only recovered information about it is its name within the localization files of Horizon Zero Dawn Complete Edition. Additionally, a description for an item known as the Mesa Wingsuit has been found within the same file: "The Mesa Wingsuit allows you to safely jump from high places and glide to the ground."[4]

The , which was likely recycled from the Wingsuit.

The Shieldwing, which was likely recycled from the Wingsuit.

The functionality of the Wingsuit appears identical to that of the Shieldwing in Horizon Forbidden West, the idea of which was likely recycled from the Wingsuit.

Cut Machine Loot[]

Several names for machine resources that Aloy could obtain by looting machines that were cut have been found, including the Firebird Heart, Firebird Lens, Firebird Uncommon Part B, Firebird Uncommon Part C,[5] ShieldLizard Heart, ShieldLizard Lens, ShieldLizard Uncommon Part B and ShieldLizard Uncommon Part C.[6]

Cut Wildlife Loot[]

An item known as the "Owl Item" has been found listed among the localization files of Horizon Zero Dawn Complete Edition, but cannot be obtained by looting owls in the final game.[7]

Several names for wildlife resources that Aloy could obtain by looting animals that were cut have been found, including the Hawk Bone, Hawk Item, Hawk Skin.[7] Loon Bone, Loon Skin,[8] Thrush Bone and Thrush Skin.[9]

Additionally, descriptions associated with the Loon Bone and Skin have been found, being "Carved only from the Loon, this uncommon animal part is useful in crafting and is valuable to merchants." and "Carved only from the Loon, this rare animal part is useful in crafting and is valuable to merchants."[8]

Changed Items[]

Ropecaster[]

Rost (with an early design) holding a Ropecaster in the E3 2015 Trailer.

As revealed in the E3 2015 Trailer, the Ropecaster was originally planned to have two additional rope types: an explosive rope and another represented with a simple circle (likely a placeholder icon).[10]

Sharpshot Bow[]

As revealed in the E3 2016 Gameplay Video, the Sharpshot Bow originally wasn't able to fire Harvest Arrows.[2]

Changed Names[]

As Arana was originally being named Thel, the item Arana's Spear was accordingly originally named Thel's Spear.[11]

It appears that an early name for the Half Sun was the Rising Sun, based on Aidaba referring to them as such in a single line of dialogue,[12] but never in any other dialogue, nor does anyone else ever refer to them as such.

As seen in the E3 2016 Gameplay Video, Traps were originally called "Mines", although the individual items were still named Traps and Aloy referred to them as such. Additionally, the Blast Trap was called the "Explosive Trap".[2]

Horizon Forbidden West[]

Cut Items[]

Broken Mink Heart[]

The Broken Mink Heart briefly appears as something Aloy had obtained offscreen right before the clip begins, and that obtaining it gave her eight shards.[22] As Mink was a placeholder name for Burrowers, it's extremely likely that this was looted or could be looted from Burrowers.

Weapons Seen in the Horizon Forbidden West State of Play[]

In the Horizon Forbidden West State of Play, Aloy can be seen using four weapons that cannot be obtained in the final game.[23] See their individual pages for more information on each.

Additionally, Aloy is also carrying what appears to be the standard Ropecaster and an unidentified weapon that fires Light Arrows, Freeze Arrows and Shock Light Arrow.[23] This is most likely a Warrior Bow with the icon for the Freeze Arrow as a placeholder for the Frost Light Arrow. However, no Warrior Bow in the final game uses this combination of ammunition.
