- "If I have to die, so be it. But if we ignore this threat, others are going to die too."
- ―Conover
Conover is a minor character in Horizon Forbidden West. He is a Carja soldier stationed at Barren Light who was imprisoned for killing a fellow sentry.
History[]
One day, a group of trespassers passed through Barren Light's gate during a shift change. Conover was troubled by the incident, suspecting that the gate was deliberately left open. His suspicion only grew as he noticed a fellow sentry, Laruvik, become uncharacteristically quiet and jumpy after the incident. So when Laurvik sneaked out after hours, Conover followed after.
Conover watched as Laruvik argued with a stranger, overhearing the word "Eclipse". As he tried to listen closer, he accidentally alerted the two: the stranger ran off, and Laruvik lunged at Conover. Left with no other choice, Conover killed Laruvik in self-defense and was found by the other sentries standing over his attacker's corpse.
Conover correctly deduced that Laruvik was an Eclipse spy who allowed his fellow cultists to sneak into the Forbidden West. Unfortunately, as search parties found neither the stranger nor evidence of Laruvik's involvement with the Eclipse, Conover was sentenced to death for murdering a soldier.
When Aloy passed through Barren Light, Conover called to her from his cell. More concerned about the Eclipse than his own life, he warned her of his discovery, leading her to investigate the matter herself. With his warning, Aloy located the Eclipse hiding in the Daunt and killed them before they could launch an attack on Barren Light. She returned with the proof necessary to exonerate Conover, and he returned to his post.

Trivia[]
- If Shadow in the West is completed before Shadow from the Past, Conover can no longer be found in prison, implying he was executed.
