The Chorus is the governing body of the Utaru tribe.
Role[]
The Chorus act as the leaders of the Utaru, functioning as a loose oligarchy.
Selection[]
The Chorus publicly chooses its own members, although they must listen to the will of their people when doing so.[1] If faced by political opposition from someone who isn't part of the Chorus, they'd have no choice but to admit them to avoid the risk of legitimizing their ideas even further.[2]
Traditionally, a new Chorus member would perform an initiation ritual, making a pilgrimage to where the first Utaru saw Plainsong atop the Promontory, mark their eyes with dye, play their song while overlooking the land, then add their mark on the Promontory itself. This practice was abandoned soon after the Derangement began due to the dangers of the pilgrimage.[1]
