Carja Guards are members of the Carja military, usually serving as guards for fortifications, settlements, or caravans. They can also be encountered patrolling throughout the Sundom in groups.
History[]
The Carja Guard was established as a defensive force to guard and protect the Sundom. While their size has varied throughout each Sun-King's reign, they are the predominant military force of the Carja.
They played a significant role during the Liberation of Meridian where many of them sided with Avad as he marched towards Meridian. A group of them scaled the walls of the Temple of the Sun to capture it.
Later, they would defend against an invasion by the Shadow Carja cult known as the Eclipse during the Battle of the Alight. After the siege the majority would help rebuild the city.
Appearance[]
The Carja Guard appear to have gold-colored helmets with red feathers coming out from the top. They wear a gray and red uniform with armor plating and white gloves with a red outline. Their weapon consists of either a halberd, sword or a Carja Hunter Bow. The halberd is a wooden pole with a blade made of either forged metal or machine parts and the sword is a medium length blade made from reinforced machine metal.

Trivia[]
- Based on Janeva's comment "No woman can wear Carja armor", it can be inferred that women are barred from serving in the Carja armed forces.
- The presence of the Sun-King's guards in Forbidden West but not in Zero Dawn implies that either the Vanguard are more prominent or the Carja group was formed after the Battle of the Alight.
- Carja soldiers in the Liberation comic series are seen with the outfit shown in their concept art.
