The Boltblaster is a Ranged weapon introduced in Horizon Forbidden West. Similarly to the Rattler in Horizon Zero Dawn, the Boltblaster is a bolt gun.
Description[]
The successor to the Rattler, the Boltblaster fires a series of 3 or 6 bolts bolts in rapid succession: unlike the Rattler, the Boltblaster has a relatively focused impact, making it far more effective at longer distances as long as it is fully charged. Elemental bolts can also set off containers of their corresponding element, triggering an explosion. Boltblasters lack any ammunition capable of Tear damage, and as such can only destroy components rather than remove them.
The greatest disadvantage of the Boltblaster is its poor mobility: Aloy must remain stationary while reloading the weapon, and cannot use it while jumping, sliding or falling. Unlike most other weapons, the Boltblaster also hinders Aloy's evasive abilities by having her dive instead of roll if she has it out (although she can still evade normally if it is holstered).
Boltblasters also have different magazine sizes depending on the ammo type and variant.
By default, all Boltblasters have a base 10% chance of landing a critical hit that deals 100% more damage. They also suffer a 25% damage penalty when firing uncharged, as well as only firing a three round burst and having the worst accuracy compared to full draw and overdraw. Boltblasters have a default 15% damage bonus when overdrawn, as well as having a 20% accuracy increase compared to fully drawn ones.
Weapon Techniques[]
- Spread Blast: 8 bolts are fired in a wide, short range spread.
- Sustained Burst: While immobile, an entire clip of bolts is fired fully automatically.
- Ultra Shot: A burst of long range explosive bolts is fired.

- Despite the weapon descriptions of the various Boltblasters describing their make as Oseram or Tenakth, they are not seen wielded by any NPCs.
