A black box is a collectable item in Horizon Forbidden West. They are flight recorders from the Old Ones aircrafts, known widely by the misnomer "black box". They appear to be cockpit voice recorders, capturing the last moments before the planes' crashes. Once collected, Black Boxes can be traded to Untalla in exchange for rare machine parts. Delivering all Black Boxes awards the legendary weapon Wings of the Ten.

During Operation: Enduring Victory many human-controlled aircraft of the Old Ones were used as means of transportation, evacuation and/or fighting back. It was necessary that the plane was manually operated to prevent the Swarm from hacking into the automated systems, hence all of the collectables contain human conversations.
The first of the black boxes were found by a Tenakth named Untalla, who confiscated it from unnamed Oseram delvers. The black box decoding interface[1] is located in the right wing of the Memorial Grove.
