Barren Light is a location in Horizon Forbidden West. It is a Carja border fort in the Daunt that marks the boundary between the Sundom and the Forbidden West.
History[]
The time of Barren Light's construction remains unclear, although it was completed before the Red Raids, if not during. It appears to be the only permanent Carja settlement ever constructed in the Daunt.
Red Raids[]
Similar to its eastern counterpart, Daytower, Barren Light served as a waystation during the Red Raids where captives taken were used as slave labor or transported east for sacrifice in the Sun-Ring. Eventually, the Tenakth clans united and pushed the Carja out of the Forbidden West and back to their border.
Battle of Barren Light[]
While the main force of Tenakth awaited outside the gates, a squad scaled the surrounding cliffs under cover of night and infiltrated the fort from the east, allowing them to open the gates from the inside and allow the main force through. The ensuing battle was a brutal and devastating blow against the Carja: the fort was decimated, and the stench of burnt flesh permeated the air as the Carja were forced to abandon the Daunt.[1]
After the Raids[]
Following the end of the Red Raids, the Tenakth's chieftain, Hekarro, ordered his forces back from Barren Light. Afterward, the Carja subsequently retook the fort.
Two years after the end of the Raids, Nozar Arin Khuvaman had been appointed commander of Barren Light, and the Carja continue to make repairs on the fort with the help of Oseram contractors. Oseram and Carja delvers also pass through the fort on occasion into No Man's Land to explore for Old Ones relics and other finds. As part of peace talks with the Tenakth, representatives from both tribes meet outside the gates for an Embassy. The Carja would give the Tenakth gifts while the Tenakth returned personal effects of Carja soldiers killed during the Red Raids.
Embassy Massacre[]
During an embassy outside the fort in which Carja soldier Fashav was to be returned to the Sundom, Regalla's Rebels ambushed the embassy and slaughtered most of those in attendance, including the entire Carja delegation, Fashav among them.
