Alana was a mentioned-only character in Horizon Zero Dawn.
History[]
Alana was Rost's biological daughter, who he was raising alongside his mate in the village of Mother's Vigil before the start of the Derangement.[1]
When Alana was six years old, twelve murderous outlanders invaded the Sacred Lands and attacked Mother's Vigil, killing Alana's mother when she tried to fight them off. The outlanders then took hostages, including Alana, as they headed south.[1]
Rost, along with other Nora Braves, unable to save the hostages as the outlanders would kill one if they got within bowshot, followed them as they took their hostages as they camped beyond Devil's Thirst for two days. What the outlanders did there is unknown, but as they crossed the border out of the Sacred Lands, they killed the six remaining hostages and left them out of the Nora's reach, Alana among them.[1]
Legacy[]
Despite his grief, Rost couldn't bring himself to break taboo to retrieve his daughter's body. Instead, he went to the Matriarchs to beg to be made a Death-Seeker. Once the rite was performed, Rost crossed the border to return the bodies of his daughter and fellow tribesmembers, then set out to find and kill the twelve outlanders. A year later, Rost returned, successful in his mission, and was allowed to live in the Embrace as an outcast in spite of his status as a Death-Seeker meaning he no longer had a place among the Nora.[1]
Alana's necklace, now under Aloy's ownership, alongside the necklace she received from Elisabet Sobeck's body.
Alana's necklace was kept by Rost, who later gave it to his surrogate daughter, Aloy, first to wear during her Naming Ritual,[2] and later to keep when she left to partake in the Proving.[3] She now keeps it at the Base, hanging alongside a necklace she received from Elisabet Sobeck's body.[4]
